It was designed as a successor to the legacy Advanced Technology Attachment standard (ATA), and is expected to eventually replace the older technology (retroactively renamed Parallel ATA or PATA). Serial ATA adapters and devices communicate over a high-speed serial link. At the physical layer of the Serial ATA architecture, the data-connection is formed by two pairs of (unidirectional) signal wires. Over these wires, SATA uses Low Voltage Differential Signaling (LVDS), enabling much higher (per-wire) signaling rates (1.5 Gbit/s and up) than traditional parallel ATA. Byte data is encoded and transmitted using 8B/10B encoding, which is also used in Ethernet, Fibre Channel, PCI Express, etc.

Fwicki - RSS Management

Fwicki - RSS Management

EMachines T5224 Desktop Computer Review

It seems that single core processors are rapidly becoming things of the past.
