	Smashing a Philips EcoVantage halogen incandescent light bulb Philips EcoVantage is one of the new halogen incandescent light bulbs, designed to meet the 25% efficiency improvement mandated by the USA's so-called "incandescent light bulb ban" which begins to take effect in October 2012. Unfortunately these halogen bulbs seem to burn out more often than regular incandescent bulbs -- at least in blue-tinted "Natural Light" form; the one non-tinted "Soft White" EcoVantage bulb I have has lasted a lot longer so far -- so I smashed open a burned-out EcoVantage bulb to reveal the halogen capsule inside. I am using a simple "home brew" solar powered AC system for the test. This was done to simulate an "off grid" situation. Use of 12v bulbs (without the energy loss of the inverter) would be another interesting test but this test was done to test the efficiency of the AC bulbs used in this fashion.
