Chicago White Sox

The Chicago White Sox are one of the two Major League Baseball teams base in Chicago, Illinois. The other is the Chicago Cubs of the National League. Both are charter members of their respective leagues. The White Sox play in the American League Central Division, and their home park is U.S. Cellular Field. They are familiarly known as simply "The Sox". They are also known as "The Pale Hose" and "The South Siders", as opposed the the North Sider Cubs. "The ChiSox" (pronounced SHY-sox), a combination of "Chicago" and "Sox", is used chiefly by the national media to distinguish them from the Boston Red Sox or "The BoSox". This, however, is used little by fans. The White Sox were a frequent contender during the early 20th century, winning 5 of the first 19 league pennants; but the team's fortunes dropped precipitously in the aftermath of the Black Sox Scandal. After winning only one league championship in the years spanning 1920 to 2004, the team ended decades (and generations) of frustration in 2005 when it won its first World Series Championship since 1917.
