Nom*D's urban nomad is dripping in layers, swathed in headscarves, bibbed and aproned and, underneath it all, strapped up in leather. Starting out their L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival (LMFF) set in outfits of virginal white, before heavy black dominated, the label's ultra-cool deconstructed looks were grunged-up goodness and sure to be a hit with their cult following.

Carly Hunter's hair accessories were an interesting touch. And by hair accessories, we literally mean accessories made of hair. Necklace pendants finished in blonde tufts or individual locks of hair, as did some earrings. Meanwhile, clothing in Hunter's L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival (LMFF) show was dark or sometimes a nude pink, intercut by open zips that were a decorative touch rather than a functional one.

Making the jump from down under to New York has raised the profile of Michael Angel to new heights. Back in Melbourne for the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival (LMFF), Angel was both a speaker at the week's designer forum and the closing designer at L'Oreal Paris Runway 7.

It's hard not to become smitten by Angel's trademark digital prints - this time in eco futuristic looking patterns and bold orange, red and blue hues, in a similar vein to Alexander McQueen's Spring 2010 offerings only less reptilian. An intricately laser cut out dress and wiry metallic sheer pieces were also highlights.

It's worth remembering that L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival (LMFF), as a consumer driven event, is not so much about what's coming up. Instead it's about what's in, and what's on the racks, right now. So it's no real surprise that the collections which make the runway are steeped in 2010 fashion trends, many of which have already reached mass adoption.

Joveeba was another label to bring many of those hot-right-now fashion trends to stage, from sequins and warrior-esque pressed metal, to bib necklaces and tribal style prints; as well as some more upcoming trends like bodysuits as outerwear.

Here is an idea of a simple and warm outfit to wear to an event such as Paris Fashion Week; a military jacket and leather leggings from Mango, and hair in a topknot. This sort of outfit can be dressed up with accessories or dressed down with flats for varying occasions.

Oh look - it's the obligatory model-jumping-up-in-the-air shoot of the month. Is it just me, or does there always seem to be one? The concept of this shoot: long skirts by day, short ones by night. The wonderful Grace Coddington styled this shoot for Vogue US's April 2010 issue, but I can't help but feel that the maxi-skirts + flat sandals combos are a bit drab and underwhelming. The ideas are there though so take what you will from it. The model doing the jumping is of course Karlie Kloss.

David Gates was right when he said that "a picture paints a thousand words." And it's fair to say that at least some of those words, when the picture in question is part of a fashion pictorial, describe a publication's desired audience. For Elle US that demographic would appear to target the career woman. Remember her? The 80s and 90s dream (or so I'm told) for all women. A dream that upcoming generations simply don't share. Hence, Elle's career woman focussed pictorial, featuring model Hilary Rhoda, in their April 2010 issue may not only fail to appeal, it mightn't even be understood.

I've put off writing this post for a while, partly because I wasn't sure what I wanted to say, mostly because I didn't really want to have to acknowledge that I'd be ending the blog for good.

Last month I announced that I would be hanging up my blogging hat. Writing this blog and interacting with its amazing readers has been one of the most exciting and personally fulfilling things I've ever done in my life. FGB has opened my world up in ways I'd never have expected and led to opportunities I've only dreamed of.

These past few weeks I've dramatically cut down on my posting and I've begun to get a feel for what my life will be like after today when I stop blogging. There's a lot I'm going to miss about this incredible community and the enjoyment I gained from writing and expressing my thoughts on this page. But it also feels so refreshing to regain the freedom I had before I began dedicating 30+ hours a week to managing the blog. I've been able to relax and really enjoy my final semester of college in a way that I couldn't when I was up at dawn writing every morning, every week.

Because I don't know of any better way to express my gratitude to those of you who've contributed to FGB through your comments and e-mails, I want to simply thank you. Though I will probably never meet most of you, you mean a great deal to me and I appreciate the support and encouragement you've given me in the past year and a half.

Thank you.

I'm going to leave the blog up online, though there won't be any new posts after this. In a week or so I'm going to shut down the comments section though, not because I don't want to hear from you, but because I don't want to delete spam comments every day for the rest of my life.
